Emory Menefee received a PhD in physical chemistry from MIT and afterwards did research on natural and synthetic polymers.

His other interests are experimental film and music, general semantics, and drawing and painting.

He lives in northern California with his wife Josephine. THE CULTIVATION OF WEEDS is his first novel.
